Diálogos Sustentáveis: presentation

A new exciting partnership has been announced between the UK Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and LEAD on increasing cross-sectoral dialogue and action on sustainable development in Brazil - one of the world's emerging economies.

In the UK, DEFRA have been very successful in building a positive agenda for sustainable development across the sectors - involving government, business, academia, NGOs and media - and are keen to create opportunities for this in other countries. By partnering with LEAD, DEFRA have instant access to a dynamic on-the-ground network in Brazil who are trained to think in a multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral way when approaching challenges within sustainable development.

The Brazil dialogue is part of a series of similar dialogues on sustainable development with key emerging partners including China, India, South Africa and Mexico. The initiative is led by DEFRA but with strong cross-governmental engagement, including the Foreign Office and Department for International Development, with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation on international sustainable development issues.

Objectives

Open new channels of directly communication between essential society sectors to achieve the sustainabibility in Brazil, going to beyond traditional spaces of dialogues. This is the main objective of Sustainable Dialogues Project – Multi-sector Engagement, a programme implemented by LEAD International, thru ABDL.

Dialogue, in this programme, is understudied as a continuum process of multi-stakeholders’ involvement thru a genuine interest in learn with differences and emphases on a construction of a positive agenda for sustainable development.

Beyond a construction of relationship and trust, which must be emerged by a well succeeded process of dialogue, the programme is projected for inspire changes in the interaction, pre-opinions, pre-concepts and attitudes of institutions and sectors.
