Redesenvolvimento Program

Redesenvolvimento 2007
Second edition

The phenomenon of social networks is not exactly new. However, the tecnological jump, linked to means of information and communication, taking place in the last years, especially the arrival of internet, is like fuel to the consolidation of society in a network.

Redesenvolvimento is an ABDL-program that tries to improve knowledge and practice of acting in a network. It takes place in 9 weeks, during which intensive meetings are being held, as well as there are activities from a distance dedicated to the production of knowledge, abilities and to the implementation of projects for the strengthening of networks. The various activities of the program lead to the formation of a community for learning about the themes of the networks for development, in an atmosphere that is favorable to reflection and exchange of ideas and experiences.

The four thematical axis of the program are:

  • Development: sustainable development; leadership; systematic vision; participation and citizenship.
  • Communication: access to information; communication and collaboration in society in a network.
  • Networks: Appearance and role of the networks; planning, facilitating and evaluation of the networks.
  • Information- and communication technology: ICT for development, strategic use and social learning.

Consequently, the objectives of the program are:

  • To make social actors sensible to the culture of the network
  • To qualify social actors for the collaborative work
  • To promote the strengthening of the networks
  • To produce and spread knowledge about networks

The First Edition

Launched in 2005, in partnership with the AVINA Foundation, the Redesenvolvimento program seeks to train network facilitators and strengthen social networks for development, enhancing knowledge and practices of working through networks. Throughout one year, the program offers intensive face-to-face seminars and distance activities, in order to produce knowledge, build capacities and implement projects to institutionally strengthen the participating networks. The methodology leads to forming a learning community about networks for development, in an environment suitable for reflection and exchanging ideas and experiences.

Rationale

Social networks have prominently become a privileged form of articulating and mobilizing civil society institutions and people, and they are becoming even stronger with information and communication technologies (ICTs). By understanding the several challenges involved in working through networks — horizontal communication, collaboration, information sharing and social appropriation of new ICTs — the Redevelop net program benefits managers, facilitators and members of networks aimed at promoting development.

Program Goals
  • Raise awareness and build capacity of network managers
  • Strengthen social networks for development
  • Systematize and disseminate applied knowledge on social networks

Core Topics
  • Development: leadership, sustainable development, systemic vision, participation and citizenship
  • Communication: right to communication, information society, digital inclusion and community communication
  • Networks: concepts and types, planning, learning and practicing communities, facilitation, collaboration and improvement
  • Information and Communication Technologies: ICTs for development, alternative Technologies, strategic uses and social appropriation

Methodology

The methodology leads to forming a learning community about networks for development, in an environment suitable for reflection and exchanging ideas and experiences.
