WWF Vacancy Announcement: Programme Director
WWF, the global conservation organization, is seeking to find a successor to the PROGRAMME DIRECTOR based at WWF International in Gland, Switzerland.
The Programme Director plays a critical role at WWF. He/she works with the WWF National Organizations, the Secretariat and the WWF Programme offices to define WWF's collective conservation priorities and to bring
the full resources of the network to bear on the implementation of those priorities. This is a challenging task which requires highly developed
talents in leadership, complex analysis, diplomacy, and planning.
In addition, the position requires considerable operational skills - it involves oversight of field offices in more than 30 countries, and the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art conservation
monitoring and evaluation system.
This is one of the most influential positions in the field of international conservation. The position requires considerable international travel, a willingness to work long and unpredictable hours, and a commitment to collaborative and transparent decision making.
The Programme Director reports directly to the Director General of WWF International and directly supports WWF's Programme Committee.
The key requirements are:

demonstrated personal commitment to the cause of international conservation;

proven success in leading international conservation programmes, including experience with biodiversity conservation programmes in developing countries;

exceptional strategic and analytical abilities;

superlative diplomatic and communication skills;

an ability to work and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals (government representatives, donors, staff) within a wide range of cultural environments;

successful experience in leading change within an organisational framework;

a doctorate or equivalent senior academic qualification in a field related to conservation, public policy and/or business administration;
-
at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in conservation, environment or development work;
-
fluency in English. Fluency in other languages a distinct advantage.
